Once Upon a Time...

...there was a little girl whose mom rented VHS tapes of golden age musicals and whose dad played folk guitar and sang with his kids. When she was 8 she auditioned for her first musical, and the history!

Emily Castleton 

Emily Castleton has extensive teaching and performance experience over the past 28 years. With degrees in Contemporary Voice (BFA - Music Dance Theater, BYU), Classical Voice (MM – Opera Vocal Performance, BYU), and as a DMA candidate in Contemporary Voice Pedagogy - science track, Shenandoah University, Emily teaches all styles. 


Currently, Emily serves as a Contemporary Voice Adjunct Associate Instructor at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. Before starting at the U, she taught for two years at Shenandoah University in Winchester, VA, working with the Music Theater majors and before that, she taught for 18 years at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, working with Music-Dance-Theater and Commercial Music Majors and pre-majors. She is an NCVS trained Vocologist specializing in vocal health and habilitation and has worked as a vocal coach for different television productions. She is a member of The Voice Foundation, NATS, PAVA, and MTEA. 


Emily has had the great privilege of studying with and learning from many of the great Contemporary Vocal Pedagogues and Masters of our time, such as Matt Edwards (Shenandoah University), Alison Crocket (SU), Dr. Trineice Robinson (Princeton), Jeanie LoVetri (Baldwin Wallace), Mary Saunders Barton (Penn State), Gayle Lockwood (BYU), Seth Riggs (LA, Speech Level Singing), Jeffrey Skouson (Las Vegas, IVA), Jan Sullivan (BYU, Colorado State), and many more.  


Emily's professional performance experience includes working in regional theaters, performing as a guest artist and featured performer in large stadium productions, and touring all over the western United States, Europe, and the Middle East with different performing companies and productions. Favorite roles include Velma Von Tussle in Hairspray, Princess Winnifred in Once Upon a Mattress, Maria in The Sound of Music, and the Baker's Wife in Into the Woods. She has performed in main stage opera, and as an oratorio soloist with the Jerusalem Philharmonic. As a studio recording artist, Emily has recorded on multiple albums. She has performed recitals, musical reviews, and benefit concerts as a student and teacher. Favorites include performing in a Journey cover band!


Emily's current and former students perform all over the world, on Broadway, in Broadway touring companies, in regional theaters, on cruise ships, on television and in film, as recording artists, as lead singers in bands, and teach at the private studio, high school, and university levels.
